THE ART OF BELLY DANCE - BEGINNERS- STAMFORD.
ADD SOME SPARKLE TO YOUR LIFE!
BARE BELLIES ARE OPTIONAL!

Starting Tuesdays, 8pm, 9th September 08, Barn Methodist Church Hall, Stamford (more info below).

WHAT WE WILL BE DOING: Firstly, having fun! We will be learning the basic movements of belly dance with our hips and arms and legs, exotic steps with names such as:  figures of 8, hip circles, hits, camels, snake arm movements, shimmies, Egyptian walks. We will start with a warm up and finish with a cool down. We will also create a simple choreography that we will repeat and add to week on week. Please note, this is not an aerobics class! I will be teaching the ART of belly dance. My teaching style reflects this.

WHAT TO WEAR: There is no need to bare your belly, but you can if you like. Please wear something comfortable and that you can move your hips in. Jeans are not suitable as they are a bit too stiff to allow hip movement. Circle skirts are ideal but not essential. Please wear ballet type shoes, or keep bare feet. Please don't wear trainers as they restrict some of your movements. You can also wear loads of sparkling goodies like hip scarves, sparkling bras (if you're brave). I also dress up! Why not! Add a bit of sparkle...... I actively encourage my students to dress up.

HOW TO BOOK.... See 'nitty gritty' information below. I really do look forward to meeting you.

WHO CAN ATTEND?
Anyone over 18 years. Sorry no under 18s. Do not worry about coming alone, it is a challenge to get out and meet people, but you will generally find the belly dance world warm and welcoming. I also do not non students to watch the lesson as it is off putting to my students.

FITNESS LEVEL REQUIRED
Belly dance uses muscles that are not used much in everyday life. Just come as you are and we will work at YOUR level.  I have had people who attend gym on a regular basis find the movements as much as a challenge as those who are couch potatoes.

ABOUT 'AYSU'.
Aysu is my stage name, it is Turkish meaning 'moon water' . I am a qualified teacher and have taught belly dance since 1999. I have performed abroad and in the UK and have spent extensive time in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. I have also visited Egypt countless times. I have my own unique style based on Egyptian technique and specialise in teaching you to grow to become an independent artistic performer, who is able to improvise. I'm very proud to say three of my students have gone on to become professional dancers.

HELP NEEDED! I'm also looking for a volunteer to help with administration on the day such as keeping the register. Please let me know if you're interested in helping.

My Courses
BEGINNERS
This course is suitable for those with no experience, or for those students who have done one/two terms lessons Karen. It is suitable for all ages and all sizes of women (adults only). As a guide, take this class if you have done no Belly Dance or have not yet mastered the Egyptian Walk or Camels or Snake Arms and other basic movements. This class will include basic technique, combination of movements and choreography of foundation movements.
 INTERMEDIATE
An ongoing course full of fun and new movements. I am keen on you mastering movements so expect some personal input. We will also learn performing skills, and hopefully perform if you would like to give it a go. I also teach you how to improvise easily and without fear. Honestly! If you all get interested in my passion of sword dancing I can teach you my unique style and tricks of the trade!
TO ALL POTENTIAL STUDENTS: Re: My teaching method. Please note that belly dancing is a Middle Eastern Art form, and not just exercise/workout class and is taught as such. I aim to offer a glimpse into the dance and performance Art of the Middle East – more than just a work out session! Belly Dance or Raqs Sharqi as it is known, is a performance Art and you should expect some aspects of this to appear in your class!
I hope to see you very soon.
 Best Regards,
Karen Puddephatt
